A flipped classroom is a teaching strategy. This strategy reverses the roles of a traditional learning environment. A traditional learning environment consists of instructional content being delivered in the classroom. A teacher will teach their students in the classroom. But a flipped classroom is where instructional content is delivered outside of the classroom. Students will learn the material at home and discuss it in the classroom. In a flipped classroom, students watch online lectures or collaborate in online discussions while engaging in concepts in the classroom with their teacher. Students will come to class with questions they have accumulated from learning material by themselves at home. I think having a flipped classroom strategy can we very effective but there are still pros and cons to it. For example, it allows students to work on their own time and create flexible schedules. It allows students to have control. But it may also cause students to become addicted to digital devices or make them lose focus on their main goal of learning.
Open educational resources are freely accessible, openly licensed text, media, and other digital assets that are useful for teaching and other research purposes. They are basically Items that are “open” grant others permission to use then free of charge. Individuals can then edit them and share them with others. There are five rights associated with open educational resources. They are retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute. The creators of OER use Creative Commons licenses to help communicate to others how the OER may be used. I think OER is very helpful to educators. It allows teachers to collaborate together and make great resources for their students. Teachers can also revise them to make them unique to their teaching styles or lessons. A good website to find open educational resources is: https://www.oercommons.org/. This website allows educators to narrow their searches for open educational resources. It allows individuals to choose their subject, educational level, and standard. This will narrow down searches so educators can find exactly what they need for their classroom.
The last two powerpoint assignments taught me a lot. I acquired many new skills using Powerpoint. Before these two assignments, I would make basic Powerpoints for my high school classes so I was not too familiar with all the tools I can use to create a great Powerpoint. I liked how I was able to customize everything. I was able to choose what template I wanted to use and the colors, fonts, and slide styles. I also learned many new things. I learned how to create my own slide on slide master, how to add the number of slides to my Powerpoint, and how to add animations to my slides. I had fun doing assignment #5. I learned how to add sound effects and navigation buttons to my slides to make them more interactive. On assignment #4, I learned how to make my file set up so handouts will print with my name in the footer. The only part I did not like about these assignments were the few tasks that I did not know how to do. They were hard for me since I did not know how to complete them and I was new to using Powerpoint. But after playing around and googling the steps, I was able to accomplish and complete all the assigned tasks. These assignments taught me a lot and I really enjoyed them. Check out my Powerpoints!
